In my communications class this week, all of us are to give a speech. Today, I gave mine. I gave a motivational/"how to" speech on "How to Enrich Your Life." As I thought long & hard about the different experiences in my life, I came up with five different ways to "live your life to the fullest" as some put it or in other words ways to enrich your life.
For the next five days I'm going to write one of the five things I spoke about. So, to start; today i'll write about the fifth one.
5. Don't worry about what other people think of you-this is much easier said than done. Most people worry, even if it's just a little, about what other people think; it's human nature. Maybe it's safer to say, "worry less about what other people think." There is a quote from Dr. Seuss that says "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
I have a story pertaining to this. When I was in 8th grade, so middle school when everything is focused on what other people think, my dad came home with a car he had bought. He saw it in an ad in the newspaper and it was a good deal, so he went, checked the car out, and ended up buying it. That was great, except for the fact that it was a pastel, easter egg yellow color and to me it wasn't "cool." This was the car I was going to be dropped off at school in and taken to dance in and things like that. I was embarrassed about what the kids at school would think or the girls at dance would think when really I shouldn't have been so focused on what others thought of it. I should have, instead, been appreciative that we had a car to get around in. My dad worked hard for the money that he spent on the car and I should have been grateful for that and for his hard work.
