We had ward conference for my college ward today. The theme was:
"Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great."
-D&C 64:33
I felt the spirit so strong throughout all of my meetings. It was a needed spiritual feast, if you will. It would be a very long post if I wrote about everything that touched me during the church meetings, but I will share a story that reminded me of something that I read years ago in one of the 'Chicken Soup For The Teenager's Soul' books that I also want to share. Our ward's Relief Society President spoke in Relief Society and she told about something that she heard from a guy's testimony in her previous ward that had stuck with her ever since. The guy worked at a nursing home and he said that he was going around to each of the rooms checking on all of the residents and as he was doing so he began talking to this particular lady. As they were talking, he asked her "In your many years of living, what would your greatest piece of advice be to a young college student like me?" and she answered "Remember why you're here." Obviously this story touched me like it did the girl who shared it with us in church, hence why I'm blogging about it. Like I said, it reminded me of this thought that I read a while back...
"Life isn't about keeping score. It's not about how many people call you and it's not about who you've dated, are dating or haven't dated at all. It isn't about who you've kissed, what sport you play, or which guy or girl likes you. It's not about your shoes or your hair or the color of your skin or where you live or go to school. In fact,it's not about grades, money, clothes, or colleges that accept you or not. Life isn't about if you have lots of friends, or if you are alone, and it's not about how accepted or unaccepted you are. Life just isn't about that.
But life is about who you love and who you hurt. It's about how you feel about yourself. It's about trust, happiness and compassion. It's about sticking up for your friends and replacing inner hate with love. Life is about avoiding jealousy, overcoming ignorance and building confidence. It's about what you say and what you mean. It's about seeing people for who they are and not what they have. Most of all, it's about choosing to use your life to touch someone else's in a way that could never have been achieved otherwise. These choices are what life's about."

To me this pinpoints many of the reasons we are here.
